ASICS

Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC)

An '''ASIC''' is an integrated circuit much like any other, with a certain specific difference: while many integrated circuits (such as a memory chip) are generic and are used commonly by many applications within a system, ASICs are circuits which are designed specifically for a certain application, that is, are not available for generic use by various systems. An ASIC is designed with a product-specific functionality in mind, and will generally be useless outside of the product and functionality for which it was designed.
