This is a type of micro controller. It is a RISC micro controller. The manufacturers of this micro controller are Atmel http://www.atmel.com It is in competition with the PIC. Apart from the micro controller core the AVR’s have ADC’s, Comparators, PWM generators and in very low pincounts. They, basically have multi functionality of the pins.
