Access Level
Access Level
A method of enforcing security in multi tasking systems which can be running several different programs all coexisting in memory.
Each program is assigned an access level typically numbered 0 to 3 of which level 0 is the highest privilege level.
The highest privilege level is usually reserved for vital parts of the Operating System, so that no Utility program can alter any part of the memory occupied by these bytes unless its access level is also level 0. Access to any program space is granted only to programs with an access level which is either equal to or greater than the assigned value.
