Access Time
Access Time
The time that is needed to find data. Access to the memory is fast with access times measured in nanoseconds. Access time is considerably longer for a hard drive where it means the time that elapses on average between requesting an input and getting the data.
The delay on average between requesting an input and getting the data. The delay in this case is caused mainly when the disk runs continuously by the time that is needed to position the disk READ/WRITE HEAD correctly. For a Floppy Disk the access time also includes the time that is needed to bring the disk up to operating speed. Average access time for a hard drive is improved by using a disk CACHE MEMORY.
