Acoustic Coupler
Acoustic Coupler
An almost obsolete method of transmitting data over telephone lines or radio links. To transmit computer data ver telephone lines the data must be converted into electrical tone signals and sent at a comparatively low rate.
If direct connection of an electricalequipmnet to the telephone system is prohibited an acoustic coupler converts the electrical signals into musical notes which are sent and received by the normal telephone microphone and earpiece.
This is done by placing the hand piece of the telephone over a pair of rubber cups onw which contains the loudspeaker and other the mic.
