Alphanumeric
Alphanumeric Codes

These codes contain not only numericals but also alphabets. Hence the name. For communication between 2 or more computers , one needs a binary based code which can represent the letters of the alphabets as well as the numbers. Common codes used for this have 7 to 8 bits /word and are referred to as alphanumeric codes. There are several types of alphanumeric codes two of them are the ASCII and EBCDIC.
