Atari Transputer Workstation (ATW)

The ATW was a unique  ?transputer based workstation that was created by Atari in 1988. The ATW actually consisted two parts, one modified Atari ST client and one transputer server part.

the Atari ST was used to handle all I/O operations such as keyboard, mouse, SCSI harddrive, printer...

Specifications
CPU 1 to 17 Transputer processors at 10 mips (20MHz)

Graphics
  • Resolutions from 640 x 480 at 16 million colors up to 1280 x 960 at 16 colors
  • 1 Megabyte video memory
  • Dedicated graphics processor (Blossom) featuring
    • 32 x 32 pixel  ?mask
    • 16 bit wide comparisions for each pixel per cycle
    • A square area fill at up to 128 megapixels/s
    • A line can be drawn at up to 32 megapixels/s
    • A Trapezoid can be filled a up to 32 megapixels/s
    • X-Windows compatible


Operating system the ATW uses  ?Helios, a true distributed operating system designed for  ?parallel computers. Helios uses X-Windows as a graphic frontend.
