BAK file
BAK file
A file whose extension consists of the letters BAK. It signifies basically that it is a backup file or an older version of a current file of the same name. For example the file with xyz.bak would mean that it is a backup version of a file xyz.txt or some other file. Some times the dollar "$' sign is used in the place of a back. Usually some programs like the Autodesk's Autocad have the option of taking backups automatically. Similarly most of Microsoft Office applications have the option of taking backups at regular intervals.
