Bar Code
Bar Code
A method of coding binary numbers as a set of thick and thin LINES on paper. The system is used extensively in price and item codings on articles in supermarkets and in automation of industries. The code is termed UPC in the USA and  ?EAN in Europe and the left hand digit identifies country of origin with 0=USA and 5=UK. Other digits are used for manufacturer's code and product number. The codes are repeated in reverse order so that they can be read in either direction and so as to provide a check of one reading against another.
