DRAM
What is DRAM?
DRAM stands for '''D'''ynamic '''R'''andom '''A'''ccess '''M'''emory.

Dr. Robert H. Dennard and IBM invented the DRAM chip in 1966 and were granted the patent in 1968. Intel released the first DRAM chip to the public in 1972.

You can see the chips placed on an HP 9800 series board, the very first computer product series to use them.

The reason why DRAM was important is that it used address multiplexing: basically splitting the address in half and feeding the resulting address to the same set of pins on the chip. Therefore, the chip could be made cheaper with half as many pins.

Types of DRAM
Fast Page Mode DRAM

Extended Data Out (EDO) DRAM

Synchronous (SDRAM)

Double-Data Rate (DDR) DRAM

Rambus DRAM (RDRAM)

Video DRAM (VRAM)
