EclipseIDE

What is the Eclipse IDE?

The Eclipse IDE was orginaly started as a project at OTI(Object Technology Interenational) before that company was bought by IBM. As part of the company purchase process IBM donated the Eclipse IDE code and technolgoy to a opensource constorium named Eclipse in 2001.

The Eclipse IDE, which is a tools framework, was orginally targeted for the embedded device development market. Developers were tired of all the work they had to do to integrtate tools into a fully functional framework for development of software for embedded devices and hardware and thus the Tools Framework in Eclipse IDE was created.
