Potentials of Organic Farming
Organic farming is essentially "traditional" farming, based on knowledge and techniques gathered over thousands of years of agriculture, prior to the chemical farming revolution. Hence farmers easily handle the technologies of this type of farming system.
Research shows that Organic methods have proven to meet the demands for a food producing system. Organic farms are productive, friendly to environment and animals, incomes are competitive, products are healthy and often of outstanding gastronomic quality. Organic food is widely distributed and is becoming a more common part of daily day shopping in most European countries and in USA. It is becoming a part of the traditional food market.
The researchers firstly, argued that organic produce is more expensive. Therefore, a successful conversion must be based on an increased budget and on the development of organic. Secondly, the approach was and still is based on the philosophy that conversion is a process of changing mindsets, attitudes and skills among all participants in the food system and the institutional staff.
Organic farming techniques bear potentials to improve soil fertility, soil structure and moisture retention capacity and thus provide solutions to the problems associated with desertification.
