Knoppix

Knoppix is a free Live Linux distribution founded by the German ingenieur Klaus Knopper 2 years ago. Knoppix is a running Linux system on CD, that you dont need to install to work with it. Just put your Knoppix CD into your CD player, reboot your computer and see the Penguing smiling at you. Thats all.
The Knoppix project is a Linux Day project, that is, the idea creating it was formed at the Linux Day.
Knoppix is available as an ISO image that can be downloaded from www.knopper.net . Just follow the Download links on the project homepage. When finished with downloading you need to create an ISO image CD with your burning rom software.
In the beginning, Knoppix supported Kernel 2.4 and later only, yet the latest version, Knoppix 3.4, also supports Kernel 2.6.
Well, Knoppix was the first of so called Live Linux versions. A Live Linux versions runs on CD only and does not need to be installed on your harddisk, however, Knoppix supports an undocuement install script with which you can copy it to your harddisk too.
Since Knoppix is derived from Debian Linux, its a very stable distribution. Even the 'unstable' version works fine after install.
