ModeX

This is in fact not just one video mode, but it refers to a whole set of "tweaked" video modes (usually VGA) that have modified resolutions. These are typically set up by having the video BIOS set up a similar mode, and then having the main program modify VGA registers, such as vertical and horizontal timings.
