PCI-X
PCI Express
PCI-X is a new bus standard that will be replacing PCI. As with PATA being replaced by SATA, the new standard will be using serial transfer instead of paralell. One serial channel in PCI-X can support over 133 MB/Sec, however, PCI-X supports multi-channel slots. For example, video cards will be plugged into PCI Express x16 slots, which support 133 MB/Sec * 16 channels = lots of bandwidth. x1 slots will be much smaller and will be used for things such as sound cards.[Edit this page] [Page history] [What links here] [Discuss this topic] [Printer Friendly]
