ROM
ROM ( Read Only Memory)

ROM is a permanent or a semi permanent form of memory. Unlike RAM, it does not loose its stored data when the power is switched off. This is why it is used for storage of the booting routines in microprocessor systems. In micro controller systems the program is unalterable here comes a concept of OTP’s i.e One time Programmable IC’s, they can be burnt into only once after which the code cannot be changed. The FLASH types are more popular and can be programmed a minimum of 1000 times.

There are various kinds of ROM:

1: Mask-programmed ROM

2: PROM

3: EPROM

4: EEPROM

5: FLASH
