Solaris
The Solaris kernel is the only system trusted by the british, american and australian army (but linux and windows may be up to spec), and can easily be configured to SECMAN 3. It is very fast, (SunOS for older sun boxes) and you can run almost everything you need to. I have StarOffice 5.2, Realplayer G2, Netscape Navigator, PC Launcher (SoftWindows, Standalone PC or SunPCi card), GCC 3.3.1, Forte for C/C++/FORTRAN and Forte for Java. And with all of this, my system is only ruinning a 40MHz SuperSPARC cpu with 128MB RAM, 4.3GB Disk in a SPARCstation 10. This is a very good example of how much Sun processors do in less MHz. This is with Solaris 8 2/02, I used to run Solaris 2.6, but Solaris 8 has more applications. Solaris 8 comes with Apache, Gzip, Bzip2, Info-Zip, TCsh & BAsh. Enough about my stuff, Solaris has an easily configurable kernel and has CDE / OpenWindows / Gnome.
