Specifications

This area of the site covers various Specifications, fileformats, protocols, standards...

Organizations Many protocols, languages, file formats, and similar communications structures are moderated by organizations, especially in the case of the Internet. Some of the organizations responsible for maintaining these standards are:
  • The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
  • The Unicode Consortium
  • The International Standards Organization ISO
  • International Telecommunication Union ITU
  • European association for standardizing information and communication systems ECMA International
  • European Telecommunications Standards Institute ETSI
Documents Most of the standards and specifications are contained within documents (often publicly available) which list exactly what the standard is and how it is to be implemented. These documents generally (but not in all cases) are originated by one of the standardizing organizations. Some important types of standardizing documents are: Programmers Heaven resources
