Sprites
On consoles, however (especially the 8-bit and 16-bit consoles), sprites are sometimes rendered by the hardware as each ?scanline is processed. This allows some interesting effects, such as the famed Mode 9 Effects in Super Nintendo and Game Boy Advance.

Sprites
Sprites
Sprites are basically a name for a bitmap that moves around on the screen. In the case of the PC, sprites are generally rendered onto a double buffer. The double buffer is then either copied to the ?primary buffer, or swapped with it.On consoles, however (especially the 8-bit and 16-bit consoles), sprites are sometimes rendered by the hardware as each ?scanline is processed. This allows some interesting effects, such as the famed Mode 9 Effects in Super Nintendo and Game Boy Advance.
