Telnet
What is Telnet?
Telnet is a commnications protocl designed to connect terminals to terminal-oriented processes and to each other. A typical session start looks like this when you login:



Many of us science or cs oriented college students in the 1980s and 1990s used telnet. We used telnet not only to move or edit files or run programs; but, also to communicate to other users who were logged into the system.

A Brief History of Telnet
Postel came up with the Telent protocol in a RFC spec numbered 764 in 1980.
