Windows was founded by Bill Gates, who worked for IBM on the OS 2 operating system. In round about 1980, Bill Gates left IBM and started writing his own operating system.
The first version of Windows, ver. 1.1 was released in 1981. At that time, Windows was already multi-tasking operating system, supporting at least cooperative multitasking.
The latest version of Windows is Windows XP, supporting multi-threading and multi-user features.
