WireframeEngine

Wireframe Engines

Wireframe engines were popular in the days before 1990, and some games were made with wireframe engines afterwords. Some of the games made for Virtual Boy were based on wireframe engines.

Wireframe engines are based on three-dimensional transformations. Using 3D math, a three dimensional coordinate can be mapped to a two dimensional coordinate on the screen, given the current viewpoint and the orientation of the objects in space. These points are connected to give the appearance of an outline of a 3d object in space.

This technique is seldom used anymore, since computers are now powerful enough for Polygon Engines
