Linear address refers to the how the number is asigned and not how the internal PC architecture referrs to said address or its use of said address. As most of you know in Intel architecture there is a segment and offset segment portion of the memory address. Some other PC archtitectures also use the saem memory address strategy.

What is an Address?
A unique number assigned to each byte designating a memory cell. The number is assigned whether or not the memory cell holds data or not.Linear address refers to the how the number is asigned and not how the internal PC architecture referrs to said address or its use of said address.
