client
'''Client'''
A '''client''' is a program (and/or the computer running it) which receives data from another computer (called the host.) Client programs generally handle connecting to the host and downloading information from it.
In cases where clients handle both uploading and downloading of information (as in, for example, an FTP server), the distinction becomes fuzzier; as a general rule, the host is the computer which does not require user interaction to function, while the client is the application which users utilize in order to interact with the host.
Note that clients and hosts are not static terms. A computer which is a host with regards to certain applications may be a client with regards to others, and vice versa.
