doublebuffer

Double Buffer

A double buffer, also known as a back buffer, is used to avoid flickering. A scene is first drawn to a back buffer, and then copied or swapped to the  ?primary buffer during the vertical retrace. This avoids shearing and flicker that could occur if the screen was being updated while the crt was refreshing the screen.
