Integrated Circuit
Integrated circuits, or ICs, are composed of tens to millions of electronic components, passive and active. Integrated circuits are used in almost every type of electronic equipment today due to their small size and isolation from outside particles. Integrated circuits are categorized as either being monolithic or hybrid. A monolithic IC has its components formed onto or within a single silicon chip. Most digital circuits use monolithic ICs, but because of the IC's size they are limited on how much power they can handle. Hybrid ICs are good for use in mircowaves, speed blenders, and so on. Digital integrated circuits are composed mainly of logic gates like AND, OR, XOR, NOT, NOR, NAND and so on, but form a kind of programming language of their own. Think asm programming if you will. All in all, relating to programming, your ROM BIOS (now ROM and BIOS are seperate) is programmed by blowing fuses with high current to make a permanent copy of the boot up program in your computer.
