What is A Transistor?

Transistors are the basic building blocks of all computers, microchips and other electronic devices.

History of Transistors

The first transistor was invented by John Bardeen, Walter Brattain and William Shockley at Bell Labs in 1947. The very first transistor was called a point contact transistor because when the the metal contacts touched the semiconductor material is when the transistor action occurred.





In the quest ot make it a practical replacement for the vacuum tube, the transistor has dramatically changed both shape and size.
