Veritcal Retrace

A CRT is designed to draw an image on a screen using an electron beam. The beam travels horizontally across the screen for each line, moving down for the next line. When it gets to the bottom, it has to travel back to the top of the screen. During this period, a double buffer can be copied to the primary buffer. This is called vertical retrace synchronization, or v-sync.
