Organizations
Many protocols, languages, file formats, and similar communications structures are moderated by organizations, especially in the case of the Internet. Some of the organizations responsible for maintaining these standards are:
Documents
Most of the standards and specifications are contained within documents (often publicly available) which list exactly what the standard is and how it is to be implemented. These documents generally (but not in all cases) are originated by one of the standardizing organizations. Some important types of standardizing documents are:
- Request For Comments (RFC)
- ?W3C Recommendation
